Ingredients

  1. 1 cup split yellow moong dal, soaked for 4 hours
  2. 1 cup finely shredded cabbage
  3. 1/2 cup rice flour
  4. 1 green chili, finely chopped
  5. 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  6. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Water as needed
  9. 1 tablespoon oil

Method / Preparation

Follow step-by-step instructions
  1. Drain the soaked moong dal and blend it into a smooth batter with minimal water.
  2. Mix in the rice flour, shredded cabbage, chopped green chili, grated ginger, cumin seeds, and salt. Let the batter rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat a non-stick pan lightly greased with oil. Pour a ladleful of batter and spread evenly to form a thick pancake (appa).
  4. Cook on medium heat until the bottom is golden, then flip and cook the other side.
  5. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
